New York: The four-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles has been given the title Times’s 2021 Athlete of the Year announced by the magazine. When Biles withdrew from the four-event finals at the Tokyo Olympics, she was hailed for keeping her mental health first.
The 24-years-old gymnast revealed that she was suffering from “the twisties.” But she never setback and earned a team all-around collect silver and bronze medal to set a balance beam at the Tokyo Games.
After a month of the Tokyo Games, the world’s most decorated gymnast gave a very emotional testimony at the US Senate hearing against former USA Gymnastics Doctor team Larry Nassar for the sexual abuse scandal.
Simone Biles and a number of athletes accused the FBI, USA Gymnastics, US Olympic, and Paralympic Committee of not stopping the abuse.
Biles stated that “I blame Larry Nassar and I also blame an entire system that enabled and perpetrated his abuse.”
For the record, The champion has received five time world all around champion, five time world floor exercise champion, three time balance beam champion, two time world vault champion, seven time United States national all-around champion, and many more.
In 2015, she was crowned with the title Team USA Female Olympic Athlete of the Year, which makes her the fourth gymnast to win the honour.
